"The so-called Dutch studies era began in 1774, almost 100 years after the Meiji Restoration, with the publishing of Ryotaku Maeno and Genpaku Sugita's "Kaitai Shinsho." Then, as interest in other sciences grew as a result of the acquisition of Western medicine and digestion, such as Hiraga Gennai's electric production, Tadao Shizuki's "Kyokusho Shinsho," which introduced the heliocentric theory using Newtonian physics, and so on. The word has gotten out. The cover of the Kaitai Shinsho is the figure on the right.
