UTMB has been supporting Texas for over 125 years—training health workers; helping to make the state a leader in the understanding and treatment of disease and injury; serving as a major health provider to Texans and their families; and innovating the future of how care is delivered. As the first public medical and hospital in the nation in 1891, UTMB opened under unified management—a pioneer already. The beginning of a hospital and school in Galveston is now a major centre of global influence for academic health sciences with medical, care, medical and biomedical colleges; a world-class research firm; and an expanding, comprehensive medical system with four campuses and a net of clinics. Now, UTMB has an annual impact across the state on business volume, personal earnings and long-lasting purchases of goods at $3.3 billion. The UTMB directly or indirectly accounts for over 46,000 work in Texas.
