In 1996, the Max Planck Institute for Complex Technical Systems Dynamics was founded. Prof. em. Dr.-Ing. Ernst Dieter Gilles is the founding director. The institution in Magdeburg is the Max Planck Society's first institute dedicated to engineering sciences, with the goal of bridging the gap between basic research and practical applications.
